The team: Prof. Philip Meuleman, Prof. Geert Leroux-Roels, Dr. Isabelle Desombere & Dr. Ali Farhoudi

Expertise: The Centre for Vaccinology (CEVAC) has been studying hepatitis viruses for several decades. The team has developed a chimeric mouse with a humanised liver, which can be infected with hepatotropic pathogens and, usin this model, has gained international recognition in the evaluation of candidate human vaccines and translational research on HCV. CEVAC team has ample experience in analyzing the human immune response following viral infection and vaccination. Different cell culture systems to study HCV infection in vitro are available.

Role in the project: They are responsible for the pre-clinical in vivo evaluation and characterisation of the two lead antibodies and the back-up antibodies. In addition, CEVAC has developed several human antibodies that target the envelope proteins of the virus. In this project these human anti-HCV antibodies will be further characterised both in vitro and in vivo, thus helping maintain the anti-HCV antibody pipeline.
